MIUI 8 on Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, Mi 4i, Mi 4, Mi Max, Redmi 2 and Others

Xiaomi has started rolling out the Global Beta ROM of MIUI 8 for some of its devices. Using this tutorial you will be able to install MIUI 8 on your Redmi Note 3, Mi 4i, Mi Max, Redmi 2 and any other Xiaomi smartphone when it becomes available.

This is the official MIUI 8 update, so no files will be deleted and your data/apps will be preserved after the update. The process is easy, but as a disclaimer we will not be responsible if you brick your device or loose data. We have tested the update on several phones and it works fine. Just remember to charge your phone to atleast 50% before you begin. This update won't bring Marshmallow to your Xiaomi phone, but give if some of the features including multiple accounts.

Steps to Install MIUI 8 on your Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, Mi 4i, Mi Max, Mi 4, Redmi 2:
Download the correct update package

Once the update has been downloaded, copy it to your Xiaomi smartphone's internal memory. For Method 1 there is no need to change the name, but for Method 2 you need to rename it to "update.zip"
Method 1
Open the Updater App from Tools Folder
Tap on the Overflow menu button (three dots)
Tap on "Choose update package", and browse to the update file you downloaded in Step 1.
Tap on the file and the update would begin
Sit back and relax, as this is going to take quite some time to install.
Method 2
Open the Updater App from Tools Folder
Tap on the Overflow menu button (three dots)
Tap on "Reboot to Recovery mode", alternatively you can power off your phone and then press power + Volume Up key simultaneously
Once in Recovery, navigate using the volume rocker and select using power key
First choose language, move down to English using the Volume down key, select using Power.
Then navigate to "Install update.zip to System" and Press Power
Select Yes and press power key to begin installation
Once done, press back and Select Wipe & Reset
Then select Wipe Cache, press power key.
Choose Yes, once done reboot your device.
All done!

It will take some time for the phone to reboot, so please be patient and you can also connect the charger at this time. At first your phone may not perform that well, battery-life will take some time to settle in. Don't worry about that. Since this is a beta ROM there may be some bugs as well, so be careful about installing it on your daily driver.
