Corning Gorilla Glass 5

Corning, the company behind the glass on your smartphone has just announced Gorilla Glass 5. “With each successive generation of Corning Gorilla Glass, we have taken cover glass technology to new levels.”

Corning says that over 85% of smartphone owners have dropped their phones at least once per year with 55% of owners saying they’ve dropped their phones at least 3 times or more per year.

This drove Corning to develop glass that can survive tougher drops. The company has successfully developed their new Gorilla Glass 5 to withstand face-down drops of up to 1.6 meters high in up to 80% of occurrences..The company says we can expect to start seeing these new cover glasses “later this year”
